Not Long Now!!
I went in for my NST Monday morning. Babies did great! While I had the MFM doctor's ear, I asked her if mono-di twins (one placenta, two amniotic sacs, which is my type) usually need to be delivered earlier than di-di twins (two placentas, two sacs). This is what she told me:
"Di/di twins can typically go up to 37 or 38 weeks. For mono/di twins, normally I recommend they be delivered around 36 weeks and sometimes earlier."
OMG, that means only about 2 weeks left for me! The reason mono/di twins need to come out earlier is because they share a placenta, which can desegregate more quickly when two babies are using it. And in general this type of pregnancy is more risky.
I'm so freaking excited! There's light at the end of the tunnel! The only thing I'm concerned about is that it seems likely they will need at least some time in the NICU. Maybe not, but even 36 week preemies sometimes need at least a few days to figure out sucking/swallowing. I mean, it is totally possible that we'll be able to take the babies home with us, but that's best case scenario.
So...I'll officially be a mom within a couple weeks! I kinda feel like I've been studying for a huge final exam from my college days. I've been reading and researching SO much over the past 8 months. I feel like I'm at the point where I can't really study anymore. It's just time to take the exam and hope for the best, I'm as ready as I ever will be. John on the other hand....I think might using the "I didn't study at all, I'm just going to take the test cold" technique. When I cheerfully talk about how soon we'll have our girls, he kinda freaks out a little.
