Oh happy day! Sleeping through the night!

To start with, I had a lovely Mother's Day. I got lots of thoughtful gifts from John and other family members. We spend all day with our families and it was really nice. It's crazy to think that a year ago at last mother's day, being a mom was not even a glimmer in my eye. Things can change so much in a year!

The best news ever, both twins are really starting to sleep through the night!! It's so awesome. I often have to wake them up instead of the other way around! This is what we do. We feed them "dinner" between 6-7, get their pajamas on, load up on the diaper cream, have a little cuddle time, and then put them to bed around 7:30. If they have problems falling asleep and start crying we go in, try to reassure them, offer a pacifier, etc until they have calmed down, then leave the room so they can learn to fall asleep on their own. Usually within 30 minutes they are sound asleep. Then John and I spend the rest of the evening having dinner, watching Breaking Bad, getting ready for the next day, etc. I try to go to bed around 10:00, and John stays up a little later and gives a "dream feed" at 11:00. Basically he tries giving them a bottle without waking them. The lights stay low, there is no burping (gas drops are given), and there is no diaper change unless there's a dirty one. After this, the babies have been sleeping straight till between 6:30-7 the next morning. If they are not awake by 7:00 I wake them myself. It's freaking awesome. When we first started this system Valentina woke up the first two nights around 3:00 in the morning, but I just gave her a pacifier and she went back to sleep.

I think part of the reason they are sleeping better is because they are eating more during the day, and so don't need the nighttime calories anymore. Since they're consuming more, I have not been able to keep up with them! We've had to give a little formula since I'm not pumping as much as they're drinking! Although overall I'm pumping more than ever. The past several days I've pumped at least 50 ounces/day! 50 ounces was my short term goal, and it's awesome that I've finally made it. Long term I hope to get to 60-70 ounces a day. I didn't know if I could get to 50, but now that I'm there I'm hopeful that I can increase my supply even further.

A couple of tummy time photos. They are getting strong!!
