Back to Work
My first week back at work seemed to go ok. I would get up with the babies when they woke up between 5:00 and 7:00, then did the morning feeding while John slept. Then I try to get them down for their morning nap before I leave. I need to pump 3 times while I'm at work. My awesome HR lady set me up with my own "lactation room" which has been great. I try to get home around 6 or in time for their "dinner time" feeding. I really would hate to miss this evening time with the babies. We try to get them to bed by 7:30-8:00, although this might be moved to an earlier time when they start sleeping 10-12 hours every night.
John's first week with the babies went great! I was very impressed when I got home the first day that he was tandem bottle feeding them and dinner was simmering on the stove! The next day he found the time to give Sophie dog a bath! On Friday he gave both girls a bath totally by himself! I think he may be better at this than me!
We're going on week 2 with no formula! In fact, our open formula canisters are about to expire. Never thought that would be a good thing, but it feels great being able to supply my babies with enough fresh milk every day. Each week for the past month I've pumped a little more than the previous week. The first week I started keeping track, I pumped 272 ounces, and last week I was up to 321 ounces! I hope this upwards trend continues as the babies will need to consume more calories per day as they grow. Currently I pump a little over 45oz a day most days. I wish I was pumping a surplus that I could freeze. A big freezer stash would allow me to stop pumping earlier. My goal is to keep giving them milk till they can be weened at a year old (or until the pediatrician says it's ok).
3 times this past week the babies have woken up at some ungodly hour between 2-4 am. I don't know if it's because they need more food, or if it's just uncomfortable gas, but in any case we go ahead and feed to err on the side of caution. It seemed they were finally starting to sleep though the night but I guess we're still not there yet! Maybe this is a growth spurt or something, or maybe they just aren't getting the calories they need during the day... John is going to try tanking them up with extra milk at their 11pm feeding tonight so I hope that helps!
