Twin Pregnancy - Week 19
It's week 19 of my pregnancy! It's crazy how much things have changed over the past four months. I sometimes wonder what things would be like if I had not gotten pregnant. Probably my job would be dominating my life right now, and instead of trying to figure out how we're going to afford these babies, we would be figuring out how we can afford the next real estate deal.
Speaking of my job, I really like the place I work. I don't always like the high-stress nature of working at a fledgling company though. There's always tight deadlines to make, late night deployments, and support escalations to engineers that need to be addressed. During the beginning of my pregnancy, I hated my life because I was on call so much and was working crazy hours all the time. I couldn't really see how I could have a nice, low stress pregnancy where I could go to yoga/birthing/parenting classes and spend weekends getting ready for the babies. I had several emotional break-downs a week (maybe also due to hormones) and when I found out it was twins, I was even more stressed by my levels of stress. Thank goodness I work with fantastic managers who have greatly helped reduce my work related stress. I got taken off the on-call rotation, which did wonders. And this week, I'll be transitioning away from my leadership position. Giving up my responsibilities is kinda sad, but I think it's what the babies and I need.
A few awesome things happened this week. First, John got to feel one of the babies kicking! It was super cool, I haven't been feeling a lot of movement, but a few mornings ago while we were still in bed, one of the babies was just going crazy for some reason. John was skeptical that he could feel anything, but I grabbed his hand and put it to my belly and to his surprise, he could feel it! It was super cool for both of us. The other great thing about this past week is that we've finished picking out most of the stuff we need! The main things we were clueless about were car seats and strollers. We went to Baby Town and talked to their car seat/stroller expert for a long time, and finally decided on the ones we want. Such a great relief to have that settled! After we find out what kind of loot we get from our baby shower, we'll start buying this stuff.
