Twin Pregnancy Week 20

It has been a busy weekend. Yesterday was pretty much dominated by errands (and I got to squeeze in a prenatal yoga class!) and today I started painting the "nursery" (still has alot of art/sports stuff in it). I really love the color I chose, it's a pale seafoam green, which I think will go well with all the pink stuff they're bound to be getting. I'm planning on getting two white mini cribs, since two full sized will not fit.

I REALLY hope we can get a bigger house be the time they need real beds, because I don't know if we will have enough space. I mean... I know we can probably get a bigger house whenever, but the key is that we do not want to sell our current house (we are collecting rental properties). Upgrading to a bigger house without selling our current house will be tricky since we'll need a 20% down payment, and while I take time off work and spend money on the kiddo's, saving will be hard! We'll examine the situation in about two years :).

Anyway... since I've been up working all day, John has ordered me to relax the rest of the day. I want to work more on the nursery but I guess that will have to wait.

A few nights ago we had a bit of a scare. I discovered I was bleeding...you know..vaginal bleeding...which pretty much freaked me out. I can think of lots of movie scenes where a pregnant woman wakes up bloody and discovers that she miscarried! Of course, that was nowhere near the situation I was in, I just noticed a considerable amount of blood when after using the bathroom, but still, I just knew that blood is bad.

We couldn't figure out how to call my doctor, so we went to the hospital. I got checked in, and they wheeled me (in a wheelchair, how embarrassing) to a room in the maternity section of the hospital. I was seen by what I think was a nurse, she strapped me into a device that monitors contractions and found that I was having contractions! Blood, contractions, I was very concerned. The nurse did not seem that concerned though. She checked out the bleeding situation, and it had stopped. Next thing she wanted to do was try stopping the contractions, so I got a shot of Ibuprofen to relax my muscles. Next it was time for an ultrasound to make sure the babies were ok. Nothing out of the ordinary there. Babies, placenta, uterus, cervix, all normal and no signs indicating that the contractions were putting me into early labor or anything. Next the nurse took a bunch of blood samples to run some tests, and gave me another shot of something stronger to relax the contractions since the first thing did not help. Then we waited....and waited...for several hours for the tests to be complete. By this time, I was no longer worried, I just wanted to go home. Finally the tests came back, everything was fine. I do have an O-Negative blood type, which might cause bad stuff to happen if the babies have a positive blood type, so I was given a third and final shot for that. By then the contractions had died down a lot, so they sent me home. The whole ordeal started around 11:00 and we were home again by 6:00 in the morning. It sucked. I called out of work for that day so I could sleep and just take it easy after such a rough night.

All together... seems like the bleeding and contractions were not THAT big of a deal, but I go see my regular OB tomorrow, so she can tell me her take on the situation. I really don't like going to the hospital unless it's a real emergency, not only because it just sucks, but also I think it will be expensive. I have no idea what that visit is going to cost yet (I have insurance thank goodness, but I'm sure it will cost something).

So that's been week 20 so far; hospital visit and working on nursery. I have an OB appointment and an ultrasound with the fetal doctor scheduled for this week, I really hope they tell me the girls are still looking great.

  1. What an exciting (scary) weekend for you! Sam, you are -and look- absolutely wonderful! O-Negative... where did that come from? Probably your mom's side of the family. Your dad, uncles & aunties are all either A-Positive or A-Negative (like me). My mother had the rarest blood of all: AB-Negative.
