Only Two Weeks of Leave Left :(
I can't believe it, but in two weeks I'll be returning to work. I have mixed feelings about it, as probably every working mother does. On one hand, I'm really looking forward to it. There's alot of things I love about my job (software engineer) like all the awesome people I work with, feeling part of a team, solving problems, and of course making money. But on the other hand, I'm a mom now, and it's going to suck being away from my babies.
John said I could be a stay at home mom if I want. Part of me does want that, but I don't really feel ready to leave my career yet. If I hated my job, it would be easier. Also, I don't know if we could really make it work on John's income alone, it would be tough. I like being comfortable, building savings, and investing in real estate, which we would not be able to do if I quit my awesome job.
So today is John's last day working as a server! I'm pretty sure he's never going back, he really does not like waiting. Alot more doors will be opening for him soon since he's working more on school and will be finishing his degree. For now he's going to watch the babies while I'm at work and also work on school. There is a software testing job he may pursue as well, and if that works out we'll need to figure out what to do about the babies since we'd both be working.
Other things...
I've resumed picking up a bountiful basket every week (www.bountifulbaskets.org). I brought the babies and thank goodness some kind hearted volunteer brought my produce to my car for my while I pushed the babies in their stroller. John will probably come with me next week (I hope!). We got some cool stuff, like rainbow carrots, artichokes, coconuts, mango, pears, bananas, green onion, mini peppers, Anaheim peppers, roma tomatoes and a water melon. Can't wait for babies to be able to eat pureed fruits and veggies!!
The babies are really starting to be more interested in faces and objects, it's really cool. They watch John and I as we're moving around the nursery, they stare at toys and other random stuff (like our trash can). One thing I really struggle with is keeping them happy while I try doing stuff around the house. Well, today I think we may have had a break through. After feeding, changing, and burping, I decided to try putting them on a mat in the kitchen to amuse themselves while I did some stuff. It worked! I was able to do a sink full of dishes, wipe down the counter, freeze some bananas, and cut my rainbow carrots into sticks for snacks (which I am enjoying now with some yummy bleu cheese dressing). All the while the babies were content to flail their arms and legs and look and random stuff.
They are still fussy a lot though. I think it's still gas that is bothering them. I cant wait for them to grow out of it! When a bout of fussiness ensues, I just do my best to comfort the baby (or babies). It really sucks.
We took a walk with Sophie dog, and let me tell you, it's not easy maneuvering a huge double stroller and an unruly dog! We made it though, and I would love to take the girls walking on a regular basis. Too bad it's starting to get hot!
Cloth diapering is going fairly well, but we've had to work out a few kinks. I had to do some "stripping" to get all the oils and such from manufacturing off because I was getting leaks. That really seemed to help, but then a few days later I noticed more leaks! I decided it was an absorbancy issue, so I added an extra layer using the preemie prefolds I have. It seemed to do the trick!
I'm still pumping about 40oz a day. No real increase. I guess I'd be ok to get 40oz for the remainder of their first year and supplement with formula as necessary. Yesterday I got 45 oz, which was my biggest yield yet, so maybe there's still hope.
