OMG! It's Twins!!

John and I are pregnant with twins! When I think about everything that has happened to me in my life, this is by far the craziest. This will probably be the craziest think that ever happens to me ever. This was a total shock! We went in for out routine 12 week ultra sound, and John immediately noticed two things showing up on the screen. Confused, he wondered "which one is the baby?" And the technician says "Well...there's definitely two babies in there!". I just started laughing! How nuts is that? Never in my wildest dreams did I actually thin I would have twins! Sure, it can be fun to imagine, but I never thought it would happen to me! I'm not sure what John was thinking when she said we had two babies, he probably was just in shock.

The ultrasound technician determined that the two babies are likely girls (and later this was confirmed), and that they share a placenta which means they are identical twins! Only 1/3 of twins are identical, most are fraternal, so I feel special to be having the more rare type. They have their own amniotic sacs, so it's really important to monitor them to be sure they have equal amounts of amniotic fluids. The ultrasound showed no sign of down syndrome or other defects (at least from what they could see at that point, and from our last ultrasound at 15 weeks). We're happy that our babies appear to be developing perfectly.

Now I'm 16 weeks pregnant. I've started making videos too, I'll post the first one on this blog entry. Everything seems normal. I'm not feeling any movement or "flutters" from the babies yet, but I hope to start feeling them soon! I'm starting to get round ligament pains, but not too bad yet. Just mild cramping every once in a while. I'm going to go to my first prenatal yoga class today which I am very excited about! I hope to start meeting other expecting moms, I need some mom friends.

Anyway, check out my 16wk video, and stay tuned for regular updates. I want to post about what's going on with my pregnancy, and I'll be posting lots of stuff about being a first time mom of twins when they arrive :)

P.S. I'm aware of how nervous I sound in this vid, I think I need to practice talking to a camera.
