New Years and Ill Husband

Happy New Year! Wow, I can’t believe how crazy 2012 was. On one end of the spectrum, my beloved Aunt Susie died from some crazy cancer. She was young, I think under 40, and seemed perfectly fine an healthy this time last year. It’s just hardly believable that she’s gone. On the other end of the spectrum, I was married to my love John! I’ve been wishing we got married last year when the family was blissfully unaware of Susie’s condition. I know Susie would have come for the reception, and everything would have been perfect.

New years eve was nice. We had dinner with at my Dad’s house, and he invited John’s family too. It was nice hanging out with everyone. Then, we went to a friend’s house for the midnight countdown. Sadly, John was not feeling very well, so shortly after midnight we went home so he could get some rest. The next day he was too sick to get out of bed. Looks like it might be a full on flu. He says his body aches everywhere, and has a sore throat, cough, and severe congestion. I went to my mom’s for New Year’s lunch, while he stayed in bed.

5 days later and he’s still sick! I’ve been taking care of him the best I can, and I’m doing everything I can to stay healthy myself. I’m taking echinacea, multi vitamins, and extra vitamin C. I’m also drinking lots of water and herbal teas, eating garlic, using my neti pot, trying to get my yoga classes in (maybe they’ll help with detox), and staying away from alcohol (it often seems to lower my immunity). So far, so good. I’ve got some mild nasal congestion, but I’ve had that for a few weeks now and it’s not bothering me too much. I’m starting to wish I got the flu shot, just in case. I really hate getting sick, and I don’t want to have to stay home from work after taking so much time off for vacation.
