Spring Time

Yeah yeah yeah, I know it has been like, FOREVER since I last posted. Let me tell you, we have been BUSY!! Spring time is here (and is rapidly changing to summer here in AZ) and it has been magical. Magical I tell you! It feels like my dreams are coming true. I've been longing for a chance to grow a garden and raise chickens and this spring we made it a reality! My garden is rather pathetic at the moment, but all the time I want to make it better and better. I'm already getting ripe tomatoes from the plants I planted in February. I just put in pumpkins which will hopefully be ready to harvest in the fall, but I'm not sure if I timed that correctly. I guess I'll find out in a few months, haha.

Oh yes, we have a pair of chickens. I think the breed is "golden sexlink" or something like that. They are pretty awesome. For the first few weeks we kept them in the house because they were too young to live outside, but now we have a nice coop set up for them and they seem to be happy out there. We let them "free range" for a while in the mornings and evenings each day. We have to keep Sophie-Dog in the house when we do that though. We should be getting eggs from the little ladies within 4-5 months! Also, I've read about how their manure is really great for composts/gardens, so it's like a win/win for me and the plants :)

We also had a family of birds living under our backyard patio. It was so awesome to have some nature come to us in this way. There were three baby birds that hatched and for the past several weeks the parents have been taking great care of them, bringing them lots of tasty bugs. Well, yesterday the babies learned to fly, and I think they have officially flown away into the world, and now we have an empty nest (literally!). I'm kind of sad that out family of birds are gone, maybe we'll get more next spring.

As for my own baby birds Zoe and Val, they are doing awesome. They are just starting to walk although they are primarily crawlers at this stage. They are really happy most of the time, and love eating foods and getting into messes! I just love them to pieces. Being a working mom is definitely hard, I just want to be with my babies ALL THE TIME haha. I hope that maybe within the next year or so I can re-arrange my life in a way that allows me to be with them more.

I am dreading the summer heat. It has been such a wonderful spring that I wish it could just last forever, but soon it will be a million degrees outside and I'm going to hate doing the "farm" chores. The good news is that we have a swimming pool so maybe it will make the summer more bearable. I can't wait to have water fun with Val and Zo, I need to find them some baby floaty seats so they can free float a bit (with supervision of course).

Going to really try keeping this thing better updated. Thanks for reading, ta-ta for now!
