Summer Cantaloupe Soup

It's hot hot hot here in Arizona right now. I've read several articles that recommend eating juicy seasonal fruit this time of year. I really love the idea of matching my diet to the season, so this is some advice I'm trying to take. My goal is to check out the weekly ad for my favorite natural supermarket and find a fruit that has a really deep price reduction for the week. Then I buy and eat lots of that fruit.

This week's fruit is cantaloupe.

Now, cantaloupe is fine to eat plain, but I've been interested in making chilled supper soups out of fruit. After researching cantaloupe soups, this is the recipe I came up with:

2 cantaloupes (peeled, seeded, and diced)
juice from 2 limes
1 Tbs fresh ginger
a bit of salt
2 Tbs honey
a few dollops of yogurt

Puree ingredients in blender until smooth, and chill.

It turned out really well. The ginger gives it a bit of spice and goes well with the melon. I'm looking forward to drinking this out of a mug with breakfast tomorrow. Or maybe I'll pack some of it to take to work. It's quite sweet, and could be served as a dessert if desired. I wouldn't think it could be served as a main course since it's so light, but it would be great at lunch with a sandwich or something. I totally recommend trying this out, and definitely change according to taste.
