Stay at home mom life!

Well...it has been two weeks since I left my high paying software engineering job to be at home with the kids. So far, I do not regret my decision at all! For a good portion of the time, at least one or more kids have been sick with the flu. It was awesome to be able to take care of them myself instead of relying on my husband or family members while I'm on the job. It's been fun to take the kids to the park on any random morning. I can spend time tinkering in the kitchen with recipes and items from my garden. I kinda like packing lunch for my husband the night before.

Heading to the neighborhood park!
It's 100% possible that this is some honeymoon phase that will soon end with me hating my life at home and longing for interesting problems
to solve back at work. But I kinda hope not.

I'm experiencing a different kind of freedom. I don't have to work! I have not had this since I was 16! Someone else is making the money and I'm free!

Of course, it's not all roses. The kids totally do wear me down by the end of the day, but these moments of frustration have so far been a low price to pay for the quality time I now get with the kids.

Picking some tomatoes from our microfarm!

Do I wish I had quit earlier? No, not really. I think this is my time now for home life. Before I was really getting a lot of fulfillment from my career and I figured I had a pretty alright balance. But things changed and I felt the need for a break from work. I don't regret my former career life at all and I could decide to go back to it any time.

Bottling tomato sauce from "rescued" tomatoes
I do feel a tiny bit....I don't know....weird....to go from career mom to stay at home mom. It felt freaking amazing to be the one providing for the family, and I do kind of miss that feeling. But still, this freedom from work is great, and being with my kids is better. At least, for now it's better.

So now I can dedicate more energy into being the home economist! Time to break out those cloth diapers I thought I'd never use again! I've actually been having a blast trying different things. There are tons of blog posts I could write about my experiments over the past couple weeks. I've done a ton of random stuff like bottling tomatoes from a produce rescue organization and figuring out how to use carrot tops from my garden to use the whole plant. I'm sure I'll get to writing about this stuff soon.

I'd like to just give a shout out to all mommas out there working or not. I'm really lucky to get to try both ways. I really say that both ways are awesome, both have positives and negatives, and both are hard. Cheers everyone! We're all doing our best!
