Wedding Coming Up!
I’m getting married in a little over a month! I am super
proud of our wedding plans too. As I was adding up the costs of putting on a traditional
ceremony and reception, I realized it was really going to be expensive, and for
what? Rather than spending 10 - 15 grand on a party mainly for the benefit of
friends and family, we decided to spend the money on doing something really
awesome and just for us… so we’re getting married on a cruise!
It really is a spectacular idea, isn’t it? The total cost is
far less than a traditional wedding, it will be an exciting destination (the Caribbean!),
and perhaps best of all, the captain of the ship is the person to marry us!
Bonus: it’s a honeymoon too! We’ve asked our immediate families to come with
us. Since we expect them to pay their own way, it took a bit of convincing (we
pitched it as an awesome family vacation). Everyone who’s going seems to be
very excited and doesn’t mind the cost too much. The one down side is my mom
decided it was too much stress for her to go. But I decided to not let that ruin
our plans! We are doing our dream wedding!
In addition to a cool wedding idea, the honeymoon part is
awesome too. We got one of the largest suites the ship has, and it includes a
living room, dining room, and a balcony overlooking the ocean with whirlpool outside!
I hope to have breakfast brought to our suite each morning and dine on our
balcony. Ahhh it’s going to be so lovely. Our ship docs at two ports, one in Jamaica,
and one in the Grand Cayman. One of my main life goals is to travel the world,
so I am very happy to make world travel a part of our wedding/honeymoon. I am pleased
as punch!
The weekend after the cruise, my soon to be in-laws are throwing
us a reception at their home, which will really be nice. They have been making/buying
all kinds of fabulous decorations and making improvements to their yard. I couldn’t
be happier if we rented a castle, this reception will be beautiful, cozy and
will foster an abundance of merriment. Food and drink will be served, and our
families will give a champaign toast. I am just so happy and excited, I wish I didn’t
have to wait another month!
Since I intended to use thing blog to document and share my
travels, I will probably post several entries about the cruise, wedding experience, and the ports of call.
Stay tuned!
